Asanda Jezile is a singer who made it to the Final of Britain's Got Talent in Series 7. Jezile hails from Eastern Cape which is located in South Africa, however lives in the UK. Before her audition, she stated that she looked up to Beyoncé, and described herself as 'a bit of a diva'.
In the auditions, she performed 'Diamonds' by Rihanna. Alesha remarked 'I can hear you on a record already', with Simon adding 'I've never seen anyone who's got such amazing stage presence for an eleven year old'. The public slammed her song choice as they felt as if she were sexualising herself when she was but a child, and saw the song as unsuitable for her age bracket, thus seeing a boatload of complaints to ofcom about the incident.
In her Semi-Final, she performed 'Halo' by Beyoncé, after which David remarked 'you've taken on the biggest diva of all time, and you've won', with Amanda adding 'it's utterly ridiculous how massive your voice is'.
In the Final, she performed 'If I Were a Boy', a second song by Beyoncé, after which Alesha described her as 'a freak of nature', and stated that she 'can't wait to hear what your album is going to sound like'. Simon added 'forget how old you are, you are a brilliant singer'. She finished 11th in the public vote.
In 2018, Asanda was announced as one of the six participants in Eurovision: You Decide, which was the United Kingdom's selection for the Eurovision Song Contest at that time. She sang the song "Legends" but failed to win the selection, despite being a clear favourite to win.
In Winter 2020 Jezile sang a rendition of 'Somewhere Only We Know' by Lily Allen, in order to back the performance by Attraction, alongside Souparnika Nair, Fayth Ifil, Beau Dermott, & Sarah Ikumu as a part of the Britain's Got Talent Christmas Spectacular.
