Axel Shelton

Axel Blake is a comedian who won Series 15 of Britain's Got Talent. He was aged 33 and worked in Property Maintenance at the time of his audition. He hailed from West London and applied for the show in order to teach his 12 year old son Nyron to believe in himself, and that if he put his mind to something he could make it happen.

Blake's audition was televised after a brief montage of acts who failed to impress Simon. In his audition, Blake made remarks about the London Underground, contactless credit cards and relationships. David commented 'Everything you said was brilliantly funny and original', with Simon adding 'You're the first person honestly who's ever made a joke about COVID and was funny', before pressing his Golden Buzzer, sending Blake directly through to the Semi-Finals.

Axel was the closing act in the last Semi-Final of the Series. In his Semi-Finals performance, Blake made remarks about fan mail, his fiancées work gossip, and replying to long messages. Alesha remarked 'You couldn't have played that any better, you had a great night tonight Axel and I think the audience are going to get behind you', with Amanda adding 'Every single joke landed'. He won the Public Vote and advanced directly onto the Final.

Blake's Final performance included remarks about nosey neighbours, different types of cyclist and dancing in unexpected places. Simon remarked 'I really, really believe we have discovered a star', with David describing the act as 'A winning performance in every way'. Blake won the public vote, ahead of ventriloquist Jamie Leahey and singer Tom Ball.

Trivia[]

  • At the start of his Semi-Final when discussing some of the acts who would be performing that evening, Ant & Dec accidentally referred to him as 'Alex Blake' rather than Axel Blake, yet this mistake could have been due to the fact that they had mixed him up with Alex Jesson from Matricks Illusions.
  • He is the first ever Golden Buzzer act of Simon Cowell's to win any Got Talent show judged by Cowell. He is the second ever Golden Buzzer act to have won the main show, with the first being Jon Courtenay in Series 14.
