As of June 2022, Word and Paragraph Limits have come into place in the Wiki. These limits will be 'loose', meaning you won't get warned or banned for crossing them (and your edits probably won't get undone), however limits are necessary in order to prevent 'over-saturation' of content on a page affecting readability.

'Word Limits Breached' Template[]

Pages exceeding the given word or paragraph limits will be marked with the following template:

This article exceeds the word/paragraph limits for its type of page. Please see the comments in the source code for specific details. If you believe the large word count is necessary, please add an exemption template above the paragraph in question.

A list of issues with the page will appear in the source code of the page below the template.

A bot script has been written and will be run periodically to add and remove this template when required, so please refrain from adding the template to a page. If you believe a word limit issue has been resolved, feel free to remove the notice, however the bot will also do this the next time it runs (and will also re-add templates to pages in which they have been unduly removed).

Basic Limits[]

The section (or sections) of a page containing the act's audition will be able to have a maximum of 6 paragraphs. Each paragraph will have a word limit depending on the category assigned to that act:

  • Magicians / Danger Acts - 200 words
  • Comedians / Animal Acts / Variety Acts - 150 words
  • Dance Groups / Solo Dancers - 100 words
  • Musicians / Singers / Choirs - 85 words
  • All other acts - 100 words

If an act falls into more than one category, the category with the highest word limit will be used to determine the word limit.

Additional sections, such as 'Before BGT', 'After BGT', ‘Controversy’ / ‘Controversies’ & ‘Trivia’ can have a maximum of 100 words per paragraph. There are no limits on the number of paragraphs in these sections.

Please note that these limits are NOT targets. It is expected that a lot of pages will fall significantly below these limits; if this is the case, please do not add unnecessary extra words to reach the limit.

Limit Exemptions[]

There will be some cases in which it is reasonable for an act to exceed the given word and paragraph limits (for example, if the After BGT section contains a stint on The Champions or a performance upon The Britain's Got Talent Christmas Spectacular or The Ultimate Magician). For these acts, two templates have been made: Template:Word Limit Exemption and Template:Paragraph Limit Exemption. These can be placed before the paragraph in question, or at the start of the section in question, and will prevent the bot script from considering such paragraphs and sections when determining the list of issues. For more information on how to use exemptions, look at the documentation for each template.

Exemptions will be reviewed periodically, and will be removed if it is believed they are not necessary.
