Alan and gay

Gay and Alan are a musical handbell playing duo who reached the Semi-Finals of Series 5 of Britain's Got Talent. The duo consisted of husband and wife Gay & Alan Cooper. The pair met at a recorder class. Gay were a fifty six year old housewife at the time of their audition, whereas Alan was a fifty nine year old scientist. They auditioned as they wanted to see handbells become a professional art in Britain, like it were in America.

In their audition, the duo played a rendition of 'My Heart Will Go On' by Celine Dion from the film Titanic via using handbells, with the performance beginning with but Gay playing handbells, before culminating in both Gay and Alan playing handbells. Michael described their rendition of the song as 'fantastic', with Amanda adding her belief that their performance were both 'very touching' and 'beautifully done'.

In the Semi-Finals, the duo played renditions of 'The Phantom of the Opera' and 'The Music of the Night' with both songs being by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and from the musical The Phantom of the Opera. Their performance was buzzed by Simon. Simon remarked 'The whole night to me has been for me totally bizarre', with David adding 'I absolutely loved it and I didn't expect it'. They reached the Judges Vote wherein they were eliminated as but Amanda voted for them to advance.
