Hasan Minawi is an Jordanian musician & music teacher who participated in Series 14 of Britain's Got Talent. He played the Minawi straw, a drinking straw with flute-like holes, which he invented himself and has a patent for.
According to The Mirror, Hasan has been playing the straw for 10 years, having been inspired by one of his students who forgot to bring an instrument to class, before he then told the student to use his drinking straw as an instrument.[1]
Before his audition, he stated he was a musician, but did not reveal his instrument until the music began, at which point he removed it from his jacket pocket. He then proceeded to perform 'My Heart Will Go On' by Celine Dion, a traditional Scottish song, and 'La Bamba' by Los Lobos, by blowing into the straw. Simon described the act as 'Something we weren't expecting or have seen before'. He advanced onto the following round, however he failed to reach the Semi-Finals.
Before BGT[]
In 2012, Minawi competed on the 2nd series of ‘Arab's Got Talent’, however failed to reach the live shows.
After BGT[]
In 2024, Minawi auditioned for the 10th season of ‘Spain’s Got Talent’ where his performance was buzzed by Risto Mejide.
