John Hampson is a singer and pianist who auditioned for Series 5. He was a forty seven year old business manager at the time of his audition.
In his audition, Hampson sang and played the piano to 'Gold' by Spandau Ballet with his face painted gold, and whilst wearing a shirt that read the word GOLD. Michael buzzed his performance which caused Hampson to run off the stage, and leave the studio. Unfortunately Hampson never returned the stage, thus meaning he was eliminated at this stage of the competition, despite Amanda and David stating that they would have voted yes if he was to return, in his absence.
