Maarty Broekman was a performer who reached the Semi-Finals of Series 7 of Britain's Got Talent, playing a unique instrument called a 'Keytar' - a mix between a keyboard and a guitar. He was aged twenty three at the time of his audition, and was originally from The Netherlands, however moved to London. He worked in a shop at the time of his audition.
He citied his reasoning for auditioning as being due to the fact that he believed 80's music was the best music in the world, & due to the fact that he had wanted to bring the Keytar back into fashion. Before he began his performance he yelled 'I hope you like 80's music' and received several cheers from both the audience and the judges.
In his audition he performed a self-written song entitled 'Backdoor Lover' about sneaking out of your house to visit a secret lover as he played the Keytar. He was buzzed by Simon. Amanda commented 'it was like some kind of brilliant song from the Eurovision Song Contest', yet Simon however criticised his performance and described his song as 'seriously, seriously terrible' & 'horrendous', whilst describing the Keytar as 'ridiculous', the lyrics as 'horrible', the singing as 'terrible', and his costume as 'awful'.
In the Semi-Finals performance, he played his Keytar to his song entitled 'Step Back', as several dancers were dancing around him upon the stage. He was buzzed by Simon. Amanda commented that Broekman had reminded her of 'Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer', with David adding his belief that Broekman were both 'fun' & 'sexy'.
Before BGT[]
In 2012, a year prior to competing upon BGT Broekman released Backdoor Lover as a single. It is possible that either just before or just after performing his Semi-Finals single Step Back that he had released this as an official single as it was released as an official single during the same year. However both of these singles failed commercially.
After BGT[]
It is likely that later in 2013 after competing upon BGT Broekman released his singles entitled 'Touch My Joy' & 'Star of the Night'. In 2014 Broekman released singles entitled 'Tigerlove' & 'That 80's Vibe', however each of these singles failed commercially.
