Melissa Serpico & Laika are a dog singing guitar duo who auditioned for Series 4 of Britain's Got Talent. Melissa worked as busker at the time of her audition. Melissa was aged thirty eight, whereas Laika was aged seven at the time of their audition.
Serpico entered the stage holding a guitar, whilst Laika had a backpack on her back. When asked how long Laika had been playing the guitar for Serpico responded ‘About three or four years'.
In their audition, Serpico placed a fairy costume on Laika, before she played the guitar and sang 'Let It Be' by The Beatles, as Laika sat on the stage. Serpico then tried to get Laika to play the guitar however all she did was put one paw on it before Serpico attempted to lift Laika's paw, and have her play the guitar however she wouldn't. Simon remarked 'That dog cannot play the guitar'. They were sent home during the audition stage of the competition.
After BGT[]
In 2012, Serpico wrote a song about the Russian dog Laika, who was the first living animal to be sent to space by the Soviet Union in 1957, and who she claimed to have named her own dog after.[1]
Laika passed away in December 2019.
In June 2020, Serpico was reportedly in search of stars for the online version of her play entitled 'The Lighthouse'.[2] In November 2020, Serpico announced her plans to have her late dog Laika cloned at some stage in the future.[3]
