Nick Edwards is a singer and a guitarist who reached the Semi-Finals of Series 15 of Britain's Got Talent. Edwards lacked the confidence to apply for the show himself so was surprised by his mother Tracey and daughters Callie & Savannah with a Golden Moment wherein they applied for the show on his behalf as a surprise for him. He was aged 35 and was a property developer at the time of his audition.
In his audition, he sang ‘Daddy's Little Girl’ by Ernie Halter, whilst also playing the guitar as it was a song that he often sang around the house as it meant something to him. David described Edwards performance as 'So moving from start to finish, you just looked like you were gonna burst into tears with every word actually there's not a dry eye in the house', with Amanda adding 'That was absolutely gorgeous, Alesha and I are in bits'.
In the Semi-Finals, he sang an original song entitled 'Love Is' whilst also playing the guitar, as pictures of his family were shown on the electronic screen behind him. Simon remarked 'Everyone as Amanda said is going to relate to watching you ... [and] I think you've been very courageous coming back up', with Alesha adding 'I just hope that this experience has just given you the confidence to really go for what you want in your life'.
Controversy[]
Some fans of the show believed Nick's audition to be staged as he was already wearing a microphone whilst he sat in the audience, and had the lyrics to the song he sang printed out beforehand. However, an Official BGT Spokesperson later stated that Nick was approached to be an audience member who had their reactions filmed, so as such they were able to have him wear a microphone and be surprised by his mother and daughter's providing him with a Golden Moment without suspecting anything beforehand.[1]
