Series 1 of Britain's Got Talent was held in 2007. The Judges were Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, and the hosts were Ant & Dec. It was won by opera singer Paul Potts. This was the shortest Semi-Final set and number of acts ever in the shows history with but 24 acts. The numbers went up to 5 weeknights and 40 acts later on, however Series 9 was an exception with 45 acts. This was the first and only ever series to contain a total of five weeks of auditions. The first ever series also did not display ages or hometowns, this feature was added in Series 2, and continued from Series 2 to the present day televised broadcasts.
The auditions for Series 1 were filmed between January and February 2007 in Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham and London. Five episodes of auditions were aired between the 9th June and the 13th June.
24 acts from the auditions were chosen to perform in the Semi-Finals, the acts being revealed at the end of the second round on the 13th June.
The audience would vote for the best act, whilst the judges voted between the acts with the 2nd and 3rd most votes. However, Kit Kat Dolls and Richard Bates were both disqualified, which resulted in both acts being replaced by comedian Jake Pratt & beat box group Crew 82 respectively.
