Series 17 of Britain's Got Talent was aired in 2024 from Saturday 20th April to Sunday June 2nd 2024. Hosts Ant & Dec returned as presenters, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon & Bruno Tonioli all returned to the Judging panel.
This series saw a rule change in the Golden Buzzer format, where each judge was given the power to push the buzzer twice in the auditions, once in London and once in Manchester. Despite this, Ant & Dec were still kept at 1 Golden Buzzer which they shared and judge Alesha Dixon opted not to push it for a second time.
Tapings were held from the 24th to the 28th of January 2024 at the London Palladium and The 5th to the 11th of February 2024 at the Lowry. Auditions began airing on Saturday April 20th 2024 with a double bill over the first weekend and then airing weekly episodes each Saturday. For the first time in BGT history, two Golden Buzzer acts featured in the same episode in the premiering audition episode.
This series introduced a new sister show known as "BGT Reacts” which was initially only available via streaming platform ITVX which saw content creators, celebrities and past BGT contestants watch and react to the auditions from the first six episodes worth of auditions and providing both their thoughts and opinions on the performances of each auditionee. This sister show saw each episode become available after each of the first six episodes of the main show were aired, before being uploaded to the Official Britain’s Got Talent YouTube channel individually every Saturday between 9th June 2024 to 13th July 2024 and later being uploaded as a compilation of each episode on Saturday 3rd August 2024.
This series also saw the return of the 'Judges Golden Moments' segment, wherein the judges surprised people who had not had the confidence to Apply for the show by nominating them to perform despite the fact that they never applied for the show, and following this the people will have the time to rehearse their act if needs be before then having to perform in front of Ant & Dec, the judges and the live studio audience. Strangely both Amanda and Alesha and Simon & Bruno shared their Golden Moment acts this series.
In terms of Voting Statistics this Series marks the second series in a row Semi-Finalist where an act who placed 2nd in the Public Vote failed to advance to the Final as they lost the judges vote as Trixy who placed 3rd in his Semi-Final won the Judges Vote against 2nd placed act Denise & Stefan.
This series marks the second time where two acts had the exact same voting percentile following their Semi-Final performances with Ssaulabi Performance Troupe & The Trickstars acquiring 19.6% of the Public Vote with the first occurrence of such happening being in Series 9 following The Neales and Boyband’s Semi-Final performances. Both acts who lost the judges vote were re-instated as the Wildcard for the Final and in the former case the act placed last which was lower than the act who they evenly split votes with in their Semi-Final, however in the latter case the act placed fifth which was higher than the act who they evenly split votes with in their Semi-Final. Ironically both times this occurred an act evenly split votes with one of Ant & Dec’s Golden Buzzer acts and both times Ant & Dec’s respective Golden Buzzer act placed lower than the act who they evenly split votes with in the Final.
The series was won by one of Amanda Holden’s Golden Buzzer acts, singer Sydnie Christmas. This marks the first series since Series 9 to be won by a solo female contestant, and the first ever series to be won by a female contestant who is not a dog act. This is also the first ever series where a female judge’s Golden Buzzer which was acquired by a female act won the series.

Auditions[]
Main Article: Series 17 Auditions
The auditions for Series 17 were filmed between January and February in both London and Manchester.
Each act that performed in front of the judges was given 2 minutes to demonstrate their talents for the four judges. If an act received four buzzes then their performance is ended early. At least three "Yes" votes from the judges are required for an act to be accepted into the Next Round, otherwise, they are eliminated from the competition. Should one of the judges or Ant & Dec hit the Golden Buzzer for one of the acts, that act will be sent straight to the Semi-Finals.
Deliberation Day[]
From all of the accepted acts from the auditions, 31 were chosen to join the 9 Golden Buzzer acts in the Live Semi-Finals.
Semi-Finals[]
The judges pulled 31 successful acts from the auditions to perform on the Live Semi-Finals with 8 acts being revealed each night including the Golden Buzzer Acts. From the 40 acts, 8 acts performed each night over 5 consecutive nights. Each night, the top act in the public vote advanced immediately on to the Final. The judges voted between the acts placing in 2nd and 3rd for the second spot in the finals each night.
