Okay so I don't think that referencing on the list pages is always entirely clear. Fortunately after fixing a reference today I managed to figure out how to sort out some things in terms of adding our own references to these pages. The reference that I fixed today was for Up & Over It on the 'List of Acts from Ireland' page with these references having been added recently, so due to having fixed the references beside that acts name within the table I will be using that act as an example. There are two basic strands to adding references on the list pages such as the 'Impact of Britain's Got Talent Contestants on The Official Chart', the 'List of Acts from Ireland' (etc.) pages, and the 'Non-British Britain's Got Talent by Nation Page'. The first thing I will discuss is how to create a singular reference before then going on to explain how to add multiple references of your own, before explaining how to add two pre-existing references.
How To Add A Singular Reference[]
When adding a singular reference you must first be in the Source Editor. Once you are in the Source Editor you then click beside the name of the act on the second row of their table column. You must then place the text of <ref name= "a"> beside the name of the act. Next to the second triangle place the text which is what the reference represents. In the case of Michael Sandwick on the 'List of acts from the USA in Britain's Got Talent' page for example this text reads 'Act currently lives in the UK'. Within the box of the page all text within the reference would be green. How such information would look in a box format will be shown below:
Series | Name | Act | Result |
---|---|---|---|
13 | Michael Sandwick[1] | Singer / Variety Act | Second Round |
The above table follows all instructions that I presented you with in order to formulate a reference.
How To Add Multiple References[]
In most cases the most references that you will require on a list of acts page or the impact of the charts page will be two. In order to create two references you follow the procedure outlined above in how to create a singular reference and copy the procedure beside the original reference. The only difference in the second reference should be the letter of the ref name and the text within the ref. For example if we were to say Up & Over It had moved from Ireland we would do what I outlined above when creating that reference as a new reference if it did not pre-exist in it's text based format elsewhere. When making a second reference we would write <ref name= "b"> before then going on to add the text which states that the act is a duo and only one member is from Ireland. When placing both references together there would be a space between the closed triangle and the new reference so would therefore be <ref name= "a">Act currently lives in the UK.</ref> <ref name= "b"> Act is a duo and only one member is from Ireland.</ref>. I will showcase what this would look like in a box format below:
Series | Name | Act | Result |
---|---|---|---|
5 | Up & Over It[2][3] | Table Dancers | Semi-Finals |
The above table follows all instructions that I presented you with in order to formulate two references side by side.
When Blending Two New References & When Blending Two Pre-Existing References[]
When adding a Pre-Existing reference with a new reference you place the text <ref name= "a" />Act currently lives in the UK.</ref> before then going on to place the previously discussed text for a second reference such as <ref name= "b"> Act is a duo and only one member is from France.</ref>. I will showcase this in a box format below:
Series | Name | Act | Result |
---|---|---|---|
11 | Annette Dytrt & Yannick Bonheur[1][4] | Roller Skaters | Second Round |
When adding two references side by side all you need to do is place the words <ref name= "a" /> and <ref name= "b" />.
How to make the Text show up at the bottom of the page[]
This is actually the simplest part of all. Once you have closed the box leave one blank line and then place text that reads '<nowiki><references /> on the line beneath your blank line. This section is the simplest so hopefully it does not require previewing as due to technical difficulties with the box examples I had to save this guide once before completion and a references list was automatically generated at the bottom of the page for me, which essentially means that if your adding references to a new page but forget to add a list for your references you need not worry as FANDOMs Software upon this wiki can cover that on your behalf.
