X is a magician and a mentalist, who placed Runner-Up in Series 13 of Britain's Got Talent. Their identity was unknown as they were covered in a black cape with a white mask, and they refused to answer any questions asked by the Judges.
They began their audition, by speaking, in a 'robotic' female voice, stating 'it doesn't matter who I am - young or old, male or female', going on to describe how the world is losing hope, but 'with hope we will reconnect and realise we are all the same'. They then asked Ant and Dec - a duo who had known each other for exactly 30 years - onto the stage. They asked the pair to close their eyes, and raise their hand if they felt a touch, before proceeding to touch Ant a number of times; each time, Dec also felt a touch in the same place and the same number of times as Ant. Finally, X made Ant & Dec draw on a board with their eyes closed, and it was revealed that both had created very similar drawings, which when turned upside down showed the number 1989 - the year Ant & Dec first met. David remarked 'that was the spookiest thing we’ve ever seen on Britain’s Got Talent', with Amanda adding 'it was very eerie and very spooky, but I couldn’t stop watching'.
In the Semi-Finals, X got Simon to write down a word from a list of several noted upon the electronic screen, after popping up behind him. X invited Ant & Dec onto the stage before asking Ant to hold his hands out and hold onto foil and drop it once it got hot. X then gave both Ant and Dec electric shocks and touches as to which they both felt. X later asked Simon to close his eyes and Amanda to looked at the IAmX official Instagram account on a phone provided's social media, with the first picture uploaded having been X behind a shop window with a billboard showing Simons word which was revealed to be hope, aka a 'subconscious thought being planted into Simons mind' in April. Alesha remarked 'Your doing something so clever that we've not seen done before on this show [and] you create the most brilliant atmosphere', with Simon adding 'It's incredible [and] what you do is unbelievable'. They won their Semi-Final and advanced directly onto the Final.
In the Final, X swapped Ant and Dec's placements swapped around, and asked the pair to dig into a jar of memories to show true connection as X urged everyone at home and in the studio to look at mixture of singular words located in squares and circles on the electronic screen located behind Ant & Dec, and to move their eyes in a certain direction upon the screen, with most landing on hope, which showed true connection. Everyone was truly shocked by the VT after Ant and Dec were seen on X's audition VT playing back the words 'almost as if we knew him', before they showed a clip from the previous year wherein Ant and Dec's gave them a Golden Buzzer. They removed their mask, and revealed that they were Series 12 contestant Marc Spelmann and that until the Final only 3 people knew they were X, leaving many shocked. David remarked 'You are are an absolute master of your craft [but] apart from that you are just a genius magician', with Amanda adding 'I really admire you and I think you did a fantastic job and what a brilliant brilliant surprise'.
After BGT[]
In early 2020, he competed on America's Got Talent: The Champions' second series, reaching the Semi-Finals due to being one of the two winners of the super fan vote. He later competed in the Semi-Finals in early February 2020 resulting in his elimination due to a lack of votes for his Semi-Final performance.
In Winter 2020, he returned for the Britain's Got Talent Christmas Spectacular. In his performance he had Ashley place an item in a small Christmas box (His bracelet), David sign the box, and Alesha to take a card with information. He then had Amanda choose a random combination of numbers which flashed on the electronic screen and conduct a phone call on speakerphone. Marc then had Alesha show the information on the card to be the man on the phone 'Christian Nardy', before Nardy was transitioned to a video call. Marc then asked Amanda to pick a random word, before getting Nardy to repeat the word. Marc then headed upon the stage and retrieved his X attire, before asking for a close-up of the electronic screen, and asking the judges not remove their eyes from the screen. Marc then placed the box upon the table, and the box seemingly disappeared, before reappearing with Christian on the video call, after X asked the camera to cut to the video call, and Christian opened the box to reveal Ashley's bracelet. Marc then revealed himself to be Nardy, before X removed his mask upon the stage and revealed himself to be Ant.
He was one of ten magicians who performed on The Ultimate Magician. In his performance he recounted his Golden Buzzer story, before having Stephen join him on stage. He then showed Stephen several cards and had him say stop at any card (the ten of hearts), before revealing the card had X printed on the back. He then had several people playing his alias X come onto the stage and asked every judge to write down a word on the electronic screen which resonated with them down, before Penn was tasked with playing a video of Isabella, and Marc and someone dressed as his alias X correctly guessed every judge’s word via the VT. Marc then unmasked himself as the X nearest the judges desk after several people playing X headed onto stage, before Marc returned to the stage to reveal Isabella to have been backstage throughout his performance. Alesha described him as ‘one of the smartest magicians and you also bring so much heart’, with Penn adding 'You certainly made it very clear that compared to what you have [in terms of family] tricks don't matter at all, it was just wonderful'.
In 2023, he competed on ‘Got Talent: All-Stars’ which is the Spanish equivalent of ‘The Champions’.
Trivia[]
- X otherwise known as Marc Spelmann is the first act to make the Semi-Finals and then the Final on two separate series.
- Spelmann’s tenure on the show heavily parallels that of Jack Rhodes where both acts went on the show under anonymity at some point, were originally eliminated in the Semi-Finals judges choice and later placed as the Runner-Up.
